SKinning question

Does anyone here know how skinning works for DX? For some reason we have gotten something to work (a mesh with bones) but part of the mesh is funny looking, (see http://phlatearth.serveftpnet/ScreenShotMessy.jpg). We use 4 wieght vtx, but Im not sure as to what the problem is as most of the mesh looks corret exept part of it. If you could be of assitance that would be great. - arigato gozairu. Reuben Kunert
