Hey everybody I am new at this stuff and I''m sorry if this question has been asked many many times but I really need to know if anybody knows of a good free compiler for c or c++ or both.

Yes, it has been asked many many times. See the "search" button up there? Maybe you should use it.

If you know it has been asked loads of times, search the forums.
And for your question, I would use DevC++ from Bloodshed.
I use it at school because the installer gets somehow through the install blocker... :D
It also seems to be very easy to use together with the DX SDK, but I'm not sure.
