HalfLife SMD Rendering

Does anyone have any experience with the HalfLife SMD or MDL formats? I''ve got a reference frame and animation loaded fine, and can render the initial frame in the animation, but as soon as a bone moves all the vertices connected to that bone seem to shift or skew right off the bone. Anyone have any ideas or guidelines on how to render this format?
