help with kalidascope

hi folks.... a friend has asked me to help him with a bit of a project. the idea is to take any graphic (given opengl''s power of 2 standard) and make it kalidascope. i was wondering if any of you had done this before or have any ideas on how it would be accomplished. my first inclination would be to fill the screen with symetrical polys which animate with texture uv''s. that seems pretty complex. any suggestions before i waste a ton of time? thanks in advance... jason
