2d graphics
Please get an opengl book and read it. Or go through some online tutorials. Preferably both.
Or, better yet, use the search feature 
Search through this forum and the OpenGL forum, because this question has been asked many, many times in the past month.
Oh, and seeing how this is NeHe's forum, your answer is among his tutorials.
