I would like to graph the frequency points of a song (like the high''s and low''s). I''ve setup a music segment, and performance, and have been able to alter volume settings, panning etc...I haven''t been able to find a place in any documentation or tutorials that shows you how to retrieve this information... Could someone point me into the right direction? thanks!

To write such a DSP routine (which is what you want to do it seems), is normally beyond the needs for most DirectMusic programmers and hence seems to be kind of abstracted out of it altogether.

You can always use DirectSound, where you will have to deal with the buffers directly, and hence can read the raw sound data.

Alternately, if it helps, many 3rd-party sound libraries can do what you want as well. FMOD is a good basic sound library, and possible XAudio for more complicated stuff...

How would you extract the data with a DirectSound...
I noticed that directmusic can take directsound as an argument when iniliazing..
