directdraw7 overlay surface?

Can anyone help me to better understand how to work with this? I think this is what I need for a project I am working on but I can''t find a whole lot of info one this. Thanks.

Don''t have much experience with overlay surfaces, but you should check out a DDraw example in the SDK called OverlayAnimate. Might be what you need.
