I''ve been bouncing this idea around in my head for a while now, so lemme toss it out.
The game starts when the bell rings to go to lunch. You, a simple little 3rd/4tf grader, are just trying to keep your lunch money and get some food.
Only problem with that is that you have nearly the entire school armed with spitballs, rubber bands, and worst of all: boogers.
It''s a fight to the fit as you run your way through the school trying to get your lunch, while at the same time taking out other kids trying to take YOU out.
Your weapons include your boogers (close range), a straw with napkin ammo (spitballs), two straws taped together (double shot spitballs), paper airplanes (artillery), rubber bands (flak), etc... with items like the stinky shoe (a mine), chewed gum (slow them down), soda (slip and fall!), and more!
It will be 2d, topdown, so no models. Sprites are fun.
Also, the more you get hit, the more your tolerance meter goes down. if it hits rock bottom, then you start to cry (i.e, have a fit), which is the equivalent to death in most other games. You want to stay alive (as in don''t start to cry) by shooting through the people who are trying to shoot at you (aka bullies) and you win by getting your lunch, but you lose if you get hit enough that you start to cry or you get caught by a teacher, at which point you get detention (all weapons are taken away and you lose all your points).
The game will be like a CTF, where one team is the class trying to get into the lunch line, and the other is trying to make sure that none of them get there (they are the ''bullies'').
You can also buy stuff (the currency is twinkies, dong-dongs, and fruit loops) from ''Jimmy, the kid on the slide'' and some random people who might give you stuff..
Anyway, how''s it sound so far? Some input would be nice .
Thanks,
~ Jesse

I like it.. it sounds run and refreshing..
Maybe throw in some ''bases''... but not in the usual sense... Have some teachers scattered throughout.. and if you or anyone else does anything ''bad'' within eyeshot of them... have something bad happen.. It would allow you to place ''breathers'' where you want them.
It could add interesting things because you could have the teacher turn around and walk from here to here, and anything is legal behind their back.. so you could use her as a shield to get through a hairy area.

Ever play Skooldaze? That one was a side-view on the C64(and a DOS/PC remake, Klass of ''99) where you were "Eric," a kid at a British boys'' school who spent each day trying to avoid getting lines(which happened by hitting teachers or other kids with your slingshot, sitting on the floor, jumping, when they saw you doing it. When you had 10,000, I believe, your game was over) and also attempting to, I think, break into the safe in the headmaster''s office(I''m unclear on this part since I never finished the game.) You had complete control over Eric at all times - if you wanted to you could go home immediately instead of going to class, but that would get you a ton of lines the next day. Skipping individual classes and running around the halls was also a possibility, but someone on the staff would go after you and you''d get punished if you couldn''t stay away long enough for the class to end. You could also get other people in trouble by knocking them down with your stones or pushing them out of their seats in class, if you weren''t caught causing them to fall down.
It''s a good game to investigate for ideas on a "school game."

I like it. It adds a refresing view to a very fun game concept.
Certainly, the idea would also allow for lots of expandability, multiple "schools" for differing degrees of difficulty, definite multiplayer potential (everyone trying to get their lunch first - it''s a race!), etc.
To expand on the multiple levels, if you make your engine diverse enough, you could design schools for fast, shooter-like action, or schools for slower, trading/interacting gameplay with the occasional burst of danger. Or maybe that''s taking it too far.

I have also been bouncing and idea like that. You could also throw in stuff like miniquests. For example, there could be 2 paths (ala Jedi Knight 1), Geek and Cool or whatever. If you wanted to raise your geek quotient, you could perhaps become the chess club champion (a generalisation on geeks, but dramatization would be key in a game like this). Anyhow, does anyone want to work with me on a 3d version of this idea?
Well I''m glad that people actually like it
I need some ideas for weapons/items and such, and what they do too. So if you would , please just post anything you would like. Idea''s are always nice.
Here''s some of my own:
Items:
Bubble gum - Place down in one spot. Static. If someone walks on it, their speed is halved for 10 seconds.
Toy cars - Placed down in one spot. Static. If someone walks on it, they fall down.
Weapons:
Rubber band - Short range. Sort of unaccurate.
Paper airplane - Medium range. Very accurate.
Well that''s all for now. Thanks again guys!

OHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
Weapons in school!
My specialty Let''s see... hmmm... what were my favourites last year...
1) Pencils / Pens: You put one on the palm of your hand, and make sure that it points to an enemy, and slightly sticks beyond the edge of your palm... And then you hit it on that part with your other hand Effect: if you can do it right, you can lob pencils over high objects, causing them to land straight on/in someone''s hand (soft, controlled slam), or go for the "straight ahead crossbow style", and just slam it really hard
2) Paper. Lotsa paper. If you can get... like... 100 A4 pages, it''s mayhem in the classroom ^_^ (balls of paper rule!)
3) Money. Nickels. Just throw down a handfull of them, and people just *can''t fight the urge to pick them up*.
