2D Collsions and ColorScanning?

Does anyone know anything about Color Scanning in OpenGL or how I would do it? If anyone has ever read any of Andre LaMothe''s books, you will find a funtions called Color_Scan(...) that checks if two colors between two ranges are overlapping! I really think this is awesome but I have no idea where to begin to do it with OpenGL. Can someone give me some guidance! Thanks
