windowless application?
I want to make an application that runs without being seen. How can I do this in MSVC++6?
If I make a console, it automatically gives me a window. The point of this is to make a GLUT window without that anoying console window openning as well.

WinMain. Never bother to create a top-level window, or create one but never call ShowWindow on it.
Thanks, but I prbably should have said I''m making a platform independent app. I''m trying to get rid of the underlying console in my GLUT apps.
The console is a completely platform-dependent feature. Either look into an abstraction layer or give FreeConsole a try (I doubt it will work).
Try this (If you are using MSVC, I bet you are)
Add this to the linker options:
/SUBSYSTEM:WINDOWS /ENTRY:mainCRTStartup
(delete any other /SUBSYSTEM or /ENTRY options)
That will make your GLUT program not create a console window.

I just accept it as part of the program. It''s also comforting
to know that my "cout" messages will always have a place to
show themselves.

If you were using GLUT then it was platform independent anyway... Just changing some linker options can''t possibly impact the portability of your code, since it''s not changing any of the code.
