how can you send keyboard calls in C++ to simulate pressing a key without pressing it

I know how to recieve keyboard input or mouse input of course, but im wondering how I can simulate pressing a keyboard button without accually pressing it. Is there a way to simulate keyboard and mousemovement without accually doing it like inserting calls directly into the windows buffer. How would i go about doing this. Thanks a lot
