Wheres the alpha blending?

Ok, I have a DX8D3D texture in A8R8G8B8. Whenever I render this texture, using the D3DXSprite Interface, it seems that it only accepts the Alpha blending value as a true or a false. I want real Alpha blending! Do I have to enable it or something? Can anyone help me?
