Does anyone know a good site with plenty of Direct3D Model Files (*.X) or a tool to convert from e.g. 3DS to this format? tnx, Jeroen

If you look in the sdk under DXutlis\Xfiles

you will find a converter

There are not many sites providing .x files, the format is mainly used after converting from something else. 3DS max has an .x file exporter as does Truespace. This page has some x file shapes, not really object but geometric test cases: http://www.xmission.com/~legalize/book/snippets/models/ also if you want terrain in an x file format I have a program that exports .x files: http://www.petra.demon.co.uk/Games/texgen.html. Apart from tha the conv3ds.exe utility with the sdk is your best bet.

Check out www.polycount.com for models that can be converted using a program such as MilkShape 3D. If you are looking at animating those models, look for half-life/counter strike models, as they contain bone information. .MD2 and .MD3 can''t export bone animations as they use morphing animation.
