Device Drivers

Recommended Posts

Hello, I have to program a device driver for a project and lack the necessary knowledge so far. The target operating system will be either Win XP or Win 98. What books would you recommend to read? Thank you very much. Askadar

For Windows XP, you''ll want to grab a copy of Inside Windows 2000 by Mark R. and David S. If it will be a WDM driver, grab a copy of Programming the Microsoft Windows Driver Model. Windows NT Device Driver Development is starting to show it''s age, but it''s still a good book. Finally, a good web resource is the NT Insider over at OSR.

I wouldn''t know what to recommend for Win98, though ...

Walter Oney''s books on device drivers for various Windows OS''s are always good... big and fat and full of info, plus example drivers. He does go on about hypothetical toaster devices alot though.
