[java] Windows Registry : Reading/Writing

Recommended Posts

Hey, does anyone know how to read and write the Windows registry from a java program. I'm using SDK 1.3.1 (I can't upgrade to 1.4 since it isn't the standard (yet) in our company). I've seen it done by a DLL that is called, but I'm looking for a java native way to do it. Cheers Jeroen [Edit : wrote Window instead of Windows [edited by - jkeppens on September 2, 2002 3:36:23 AM]

There is no java native way. The registry is platform-specific, so not supported in core java. I''m sure there''s plenty of pre-created DLLs out there for you to use, though.

If I had my way, I''d have all of you shot!

No prob... just found a good one. It''s the "com.ice.jni.registry" package. I''ve experimented with it, the last hour and it does the trick well.

In 1.4 there is a way to do it (for whenever your company upgrades). I believe it''s called the Preferences API, and that it works a bit like the Properties API - load/save, getProperty, etc...
