textures format

I''m programming a 3d engine and I''d like to know what format is the best for use as textures: jpg, bmp, tga, ... ?????? Thanks and sorry for my poor english

Different formats have different pros and cons.

JPEG:
Very small files, but lower quality. No alpha channel.

BMP:
Big files, but full quality.

TGA:
Big fies, full quality, and an alpha channel can be present.
