Setting up Glide3x
Hi y''all guys, long time no been here. Anywayzzz, I recently formatted my computer and put all my nice SDK''s back. So I did with Glide3x.
To test it I used a small test program, linked everything with the glid3x.lib and it didn''t work. i was astonished because I had it working before I formatted my computer and can''t recall anything that I did with it before. These are the errors I got:
gldtut1.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _grGlideShutdown
gldtut1.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _grSstWinClose
gldtut1.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _grBufferSwap

So, could any of you help me out with this?

Check to make sure that the file glide3x.lib is really in your lib directory! And make sure that in your options you''ve got that directory as a path libs!
I don''t have it in my lib directory, I just include (as I always do) the lib file INTO the project. That has always worked fine for me, why wouldn''t it now?

i know know how much you mean with include =) but did you also remember to add the glide3x lib path ??
( if VC6 under tools->options->directories, dropdown-box->libary-files )
( if VC6 under tools->options->directories, dropdown-box->libary-files )
That shouldn''t matter at all. It''s should work just the same as when I work with DX. But I''ll try it anyway when I get back from work...

Nope...like I said, doesn''t help. Cuz including the lib in the project (and not the #include statement is I _think_ that you though I was doing), and specifying the path name of the libraries is exactly the same.
Anybody with more ideas??

Well, you shouldn''t really include the lib file in your project. Add the directory to the lib path, and then check your project settings and include the library in the link settings
This is offtopic to the original question, and could incite a flamewar, but what the hell...
You might want to consider moving from Glide to another API, such as OpenGL or Direct3D. 3DFX''s market share isn''t even close to what it once was, and writing for Glide-only (I am assuming you are, if this is just a Glide driver for a larger rendering engine, then forgive me) will severely limit the number of people that can run your game/application.
Even 3DFX realizes Glide has lived pasts its usefulness and is in the process of phasing it out and focusing on better Direct3D and OpenGL support.
OK, rant over.

Well if it is a small scale engine or you just are still learning 3d stay with glide because this (in an odd sorta way) forces you to learn crucial componets of an engine such as clipping, lighting, etc. Glide still has a good year left in the market so don''t count out it''s usefullness just yet.
I already CODE in OpenGL and Direct3D (and Glide before I formatted my HD), but I''d like to know everything and therefore I also do the Glide stuff. In this way my programs will be DX / OpenGL and Glide based, depending on the driver you choose.
But now I can only use OpenGL and DX
