Does anyone know how to open Total Annihilation''s .UFO files (compressed units). I''ve been searching the net (google, flipcode, opengl.org...) for a few hours but I just can''t find any specific info how to do it. I know the file is cmpressed and it consists of 2 parts (mesh&texture). There has been a news of a project creating full 3D verison of TA with source code a few months ago but now their web site is down. I would realy like if any of you could give me any info about this. Anything: Source code, file spec,... You should never let your fears become the boundaries of your dreams.

I just so happen to be an expert in TA editing!

Look for a program called HPIPack and HPIView (I think) to open the HPI and UFO files. You can browse the directory structure and extract the model files (3do) which you can then open in one of the TA modeling programs. This is why it was my favorite game!

I always thought it would be cool to command military forces for a living. Then i played TA and got my ass handed to me in many humbeling experiences..... Thats why im here in the programming section and not in a fourm about military buffs.

On a better note im currently kicking ass in warcraft III

Cybertron : I downloaded HPIPack and HPIView, so now I can extract files form UFO. I guess I''ll have to reverse engeneer how they do this.
But the thing I realy need is something like one of those 1000s of md2 model loaders....

B4k4 N3. They must''ve taken it down.

Here: http://www.halyava.ru/document/ind_form.htm

Which leads HERE: http://195.96.188.4/archive/hpi.zip

Which is what you wanted in the first place right?
You can also get a download for an HPI loader DLL.
I forget where. Search for.

Nb. That top link was the first hit on google for:
"hpi file format" on 12th of September, 2002-09-12,
18:00:00 (GMT +8).
