Index Buffer Performance

what is the better way to create index-buffer?? 1)D3DFMT_INDEX16 ? 2)D3DFMT_INDEX32 ? Thanks in advance

a) You only need 32bit indices when you have more than 64k of vertices. Using them when you don''t need them just means you end up copying 2x as much data over the AGP bus to the chip!.

b) Most chips & drivers DO NOT support 32 bit indices, only the very latest do.

c) Most chips DO NOT support index buffers in hardware so on most you get a copy over the AGP bus.

Prefer 16bit (less data to copy) unless you *NEED* 32bit AND 32bit is supported on the target hardware.
