When I'm coding, using VC++6 enterprise and Jim Adams' "Programming RPG games with DX" my computer reboots from time to time. The screen just turns black, and then boots windows again. As far as I know there isn't a memleak in my app, since the same happens when I'm just using Jim Adams' code (rendering nothing, just clearing the screenbuffers). Does anybody else have this problem, and what should/can I do about it? I'm using WinXP PRO. [edited by - steve_- on September 12, 2002 3:56:44 PM]

You are probably getting a bluescreen.

Which is when part of the OS or device drivers crash... I believe the default action of the OS is to reboot when you get a blue screen.

Go to control panel/system, advanced/startup and recovery, system failure/automatic restart.

Possible cause: Old or beta device driver or some action that is causing the video driver to crap out. (sorry can''t be more specific)

agreed

When it happens to me, it''s usually a vertex or index buffer problem or something to that effect.

Have you tried rebooting?

Joking! Try downloading the latest version of your Video drivers and making sure they are compatable with Win XP.
