Q about HawkNL

I see that a lot of people are using or learning how to use Hawk NL. I was wondering what the performance levels of HawkNL are? is it worth using if you need cutting edge performance? I have a basic Non-Blocking multi user server coded in just winsock (well, portable BSD socket code, nothing Windows specific). But i hate the nitty gritty details of the network code, and am wondering if using it would be worth it? what the goal of my project is right now is this. I was addicted to Ragarok Online, but now it is closed, i would like to code something similar that i would closely resemble Chrono Trigger in style, so i am writing a mmorpg, and plan on using the TCP/IP protocol, which HawkNL can do, i already know how to and have the ablility to code the client side, IE HUD, graphics, engine etc, but the only new thing i am learning is the socket code. so could anyone point me in a good direction as to find out about HawkNL in performance based applications, or just tell me to shut up and do it my self.
