World Perspective

I have learned how to do matrices now and I built a little 3D program, it allows you to rotate a square (not cube) around all three axies. But the problem I'm having is I can't get any perspective. What this means is that I can't create the illision of depth with my program. I've tried dividing my X and Y's with the Z but it doesn't work correctly. Can anyone help me out? I actually did the same thing last night (but i did it with a cube).

XonScreen = x * 256 / z + HalfOfScreenWidth;
YonScreen = y * 256 / z + HalfOfScreenHeight;

The 256 is the ''''perspective'''', i dont know a better word for it. Try other values and you will see what I mean.
