Ok, I just got my new spiffy xp, win2000, nt platform SDK. I installed all the items I needed, I even got my compiler (VC 6.0) to point to the SDK directory to include the new code, however I can''t get access to the darned help files. I keep getting some error about unknown file types??? I thought the appropriate program would have at least come with the SDK. Is there some way I can get access to the SDK docs, or even better yet "import" them into my compiler help files? Thanks, ~Bolt

It''s been almost a year since i''ve last downloaded the platform SDK. Back then they used .chm files (compiled HTML help files). To view those, you need the hh.exe or html help reader (same file).

If this is still the file format (.chm extension) your hh.exe maynot have register to the file type correctly. Search your computer and associate the .chm file format with a hh.exe file.

Otherwise, check your Start->Programs menu to see if the SDK was installed with the group icons. One of those Icons should open up the platform help file.

If either of those suggestions don''t work or not what you are looking for, then I can''t help you.

They use some new format for the help files, and some new weird system for invoking them. If you want to have it handy in VC++ you can add a Tool like this:

Command: %%WindowsDrive%%:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\help\dexplore.exe
Arguments: /helpcol ms-help://MS.PSDK.1033
Initial directory: %%SDK-dir%%\Help\

All the new MS Platform SDK''s consist of help files in the brand new MS HELP 2.0 format. This format is so new, that it has not even been formally released yet!! The SDK contains a beta help viewer, dexplore.exe (as CWizard has already pointed out). The new help will be formally launched in 2003.
Another interesting thing is that the beta viewer only works on the NT platform. So no help files for those stuck on Win 9x/Me
