I have noticed that in a lot of OpenGL apps like quake 2 and quake 3 for example when the game is loading i guess this is when OpenGL is getting initialized the whole screen goes grey. Like in Quake 3 after the loading console goes away the whole screen is grey for a while and then it goes white and then the main menu it up. What i want to know is how do i make my OpenGL programs do the same, where the whole screen is grey when OpenGL is initializing. I guess its doing that when its all grey im not sure exactly. Thomas

I believe what the gents from Id did is simply create a full-screen, borderless window with a gray (or white) background and making it visible just before doing their ChangeDisplaySettings calls. This has the effect of concealing your horribly mangled background during the display change flashes. I prefer black, myself.
