Another Newb Team... Heheheh

Recommended Posts

Hey, I'm going to start my own team and maybe take the load off of Tigra7... if he wants it or not hehehe. I just need 2 or so people who have little or no experience with C++. I will be posting up a site where users can send requests and such.. currently I just need 2 or 3 maybe even 4 for a small programming team. I'll also accept any artist and anybody who can be the umm... music director. (1 or 2 in thos field will do). Here's my plan for the team (for the programmers) 1. Learn the basics of C++ (maybe some text games) 2. Go into a bit of windows 32 programming 3. Then move on to the Direct X 4. Make a 2d game, maybe simular to Infantry if you know that game, if not it's on Sony station. It's single player for now... maybe we'll put multiplayer later OR 4. Create an rpg game maybe 2d sort of similar to dransik and then expand it to multiplayer. Here's my plan for the artists 1. Create some art I guesss.. it will depend on whether we do an RPG game or a Bird eye view shooter game 2. When we decide which to make and give it a name, a title screen would also be nice Here's my plan for the music director 1. Create sound effects and some background music would be nice... So, if your interested, post or E-mail me: PNNet@hotmail.com Just a note: Try to be around or near the Eastern Time Zone, thanks. Ways of contacts will either be through MSN or AOL. Or also the web site. Thanks, P. Nguyen Incoming Message: Help! Help! My Cloud Is Gone!!! [edited by - BrokenCloud on October 1, 2002 5:08:40 PM]

Hmm, this sounds interesting to me also.

(If you don''t know me, then it''s because this is my first time here. I really like the layout of GameDev and it''s purpose, and I myself know little-to-nothing of C++/game programming , even though I''ve done some smaller scripts from this C++ book I''d bought, but nothing that lasted too long, and the same goes for my other attempts to try and delve further into programming, and maybe this is just the incentive I need.)

Anyways, I''m already sending the e-mail too. Hope this turns out something good, and I''ll try my best to contribute.

When I was about 10 writing on the Apple //e the most fun I had was planning a RPG and writing things on paper. Though I never really got down to coding much. but its ok.. I was having so much fun planning!

Now the thing I find amusing is using Facestation to map peoples faces (people I know) and put them on 3d models.

From there I might try a boxing game or something.. it just seems funny the idea of watching to people I know slug it out

i wish poser 5 would come out

Heh, I don't belive Infantry is 2D I do belive it is more 3D with 2D graphics. Mainly because lets think of grav ball if that is still around the ball went up into the air therefore you can conclude it is a 3 demensional game. I used to play it quiet a lot when it was free and it was in alpha. Plus, I do belive you are some what having much to high expecations for someone who is start into C++. I had nearly the same expectations and I searched forever to find a basic engine to use. Only to end up saying fu** this shit ill make my own. I do however now have 3 engines :P 2 2D engines and 1 3D engine its quite amusing to see someone wanting to make a game like infantry such as I did so long ago. But anyways if you do belive you can do it thats great if you want ill even help out.

Heh, I almost think this has to do with many people that enjoy computers and programming have a sense to think logically. As well as many RPG's require you to think logically. This concludes that
if(you.likeRpgsReallyAlot()) you.mayBecome(gameProgrammer);

Sounds fun. Any more info yet on the programming side? Timeline, etc.

Well, I guess a week or two for the basics of programming.
Maybe another week of windows programming (opening windows mostly). The rest... I don''t know... If you send me an e-mail or post, please send me the position. Thanks.

Ok, ok, it''s a 3D game... however I did say something like it. It will mostly shooting part of it, instead of the grav ball.

You may however have problems even with the shooting concept its easy to do yes. But the turing of the infantry guy line of sight and alpha blending effects will be hard to do unless you like draw it all.

Ya, but this is right now, and it will be a looooooong time till we get there... and hopefully with the help of direct x, this will be a bit easier. I HOPE. Also, I DO have the direct x 8.0 sdk.

Good luck to you too. I was going to join your team, but I never really did like following people... also there was nobody on mIRC. And hey, maybe we''ll do that.

Now for a note to all those who sent me an e-mail. After a long and boring time . I finally finished the 6.. heheh... don''t worry if you haven''t sent me an e-mail, there''s still time. So, check your e-mail and start reading. Also I lost my overview cut and copy so half of you may get different team overviews. Whoever wants to join will probably be accepted, but once we get pass all the basic stuff, I will either split people into different teams, or they can go off on their own, or make their own team. That''s just the nice me talking, i may have to kick people off... hheheheh.

Well, Later, Broken Cloud

Heh, I play Dransik, pretty awesom game. Anyway, I'd like to your the "team" I am at a intermidiate level in C++. I have no clue about games programming (At least not working with graphics). At the moment I'm working with Text based RPG's (Console apps).

*edit* And if you want Dransik style arkwork I am your man, I've been creating Avatars for over a year using Dransik artwork as well as my own designs.

Heck, I''ll join... the group i was going to start is going down the toobs due the unability to communicate. I know pretty much everything in c++, windows, and I''m starting directx. I could be a big help because most of questions your team has, I could answer. Maybe a Senior programmer? Or a ''helper of newbies and programmer?''

Anyway I have some questions...

1.) How will we learn... I could give daily sessions in the irc...and write some tutorials for your website.

2.) Are we making games when we get good? Will we sell them?

If you don''t miund me joining, reply to this topic... I''ll be keeping an eye on it.

I am a medium-advanced C/C++ programmer, but I have just started to delve into DirectX. I am also a medium MIDI composer. I would love to compose some RPG music. My email is mcilvain@madtel.net.

Alright, I will be announcing the 4 people who I will be choosing. However, first I would like to thank all the people who sent their applications and posted. I would also like to say, if you are as dedicated to games as me, i'm pretty sure you can make your own group if you try . Also i'm hoping to atleast keep this team and maybe evolve it into a company for atleast a year or so. If you can not do this and you were chosen, please send me an e-mail ASAP! (as soon as possible) Last note for this paragraph. I hope you all have ms vc++ 6 or greater!

And a response to simon10k, no, i am not AtomicToxin, I was however Dark Templar [med], [eng], [hvy] and such hehehe... not very creative but hey whatever. hehe

To answer Tigra7's questions. I will be setting up a java chat on a private web site (password protected). There will also be a download page for excercises and maybe 3 times a week we will meet, have lessons, ask questions and talk I guess. Now with the money issue. When we do get good, yes, we will be charging. Maybe $8-10 a game? Who knows. Then I will be splitting up the money and you will then be paid . I don't know how I am going to split the money, but time will tell. All i know is when we make a good sale, I will be using part of the money to buy a good server and also a domain name . Since right now, I'm short on cash.

I'll be needing an experienced C++ programmer. Tigra7 seems to be a good candidate, but jumping the bandwagon isn't a good sign. If you are dedicated, and am able to spend atleast a year, then I will let you join. (senior programmor, since you will probably the most experienced ).

Artists are what makes the game beautiful and captures the imagination. Since the only artist that responded was simon10k, If you wish, I will let you join. Just a note, this will be a non paying job. Like all others. I hope you can make other different type of graphics too. Also, if you wish to take part in the lessons and help out with other people you may. However you will be listed under Concept Artist.

Musicians, FlamePixel, you like simon10k are the only people who signed up for the position. So, hmm... the same goes to you as what I said about the artist positon. You can join in the lessons and help out with c++ if you wish. As I said with the artists, your name will go under Music Director.

NOW FOR THE HARD PART
I will choose 3 programmers, I'm sorry if you didn't make it. There was nothing against you are anything, I just had to make the choice. I like to keep the team small, since as Tigra7 said, it's hard to communicate and he has quite a large team (i think). Well, here goes nothing.

O before i begin, I reviewed all those e-mails i got from before I posted my last post. Just so you know . Last thing, I will be posting the e-mails since I don't know all of your usernames.

Ok, lets begin, without further a due:

1.christianhasoi@hotmail.com
Comments: If direction is what you need, then direction is what you can achieve. Stay focus and enjoy what you are doing and it will all come together. This leadership is what I hope to achieve, and as the leader, I say welcome.

2.Mindarian@myrealbox.com
Comments: Don't underestimate age, wisdom and knowledge is something you can gain through hard work or you are born with it and again, you will have the hard work to prove it. Like i've said before, dedication is the key to this team. If you have it, I welcome you aboard.

3.flipp3r@bellsouth.net
Comments: I hope i'am doing the right thing, 2 years and you know what i'm talking about. However, I was in your shoes and I do know how it feels. However, what kept me going is motivation. If you are dedicated as I have said over and over. I will be also be glad to see you aboard .

Now for other notes:
codeg00f@cox.net - If you wish to join my HTML project, e-mail me . If you wish to be the webmaster, also e-mail me . Also, if you think you can handle the position, e-mail me too !

Concluding Paragraph
Again, I would like to thank all those who participated. It was a hard and long time choosing who and such. I'm sorry if I sent that message about the site thingy.. url. Anybody who responded to this will get a reply stating to look at this post . Also the top portions (Artist, Snr Prog, Music Dir) are positions if you didn't know . SPECIAL NOTE: to all those I chose, I just hope you are all (anybody keeping count on the word Dedicated in this post?) VERY DEDICATED TO THIS TEAM, because I don't like wasting time. If you aren't dedicated, Send ME an E-MAIL ASAP and tell me you quit instead of me telling you month or so that you are fired (yes, you can get fired)!!!!!!!!!!!

Now, i must rest my hands for... 1 min hehehe...

From, P. Nguyen (Broken Cloud)

*Edit* Grammer mistake, very picky about grammer, but don't point out my grammer mistakes if you find one .

Dark Templar, I've seen him around. Most people knew me anyhow and you probably will too, I was one of the early lvl 100s. =)

*Edit*

I've decided not to join a team, I have learned a great deal about C++ this past year just through reading and plan to learn a lot more through books.

Although I am deeply affended I was not a chosen candidate for the job! *Only joking* =P

Please note: This is over. Not the team, but submitting your application. UNLESS you are willing to do the graphics, since simon10k jumped at the last minute and you should know 2d and 3d graphics. When you do e-mail me about that, please put ART as the subject!

O, and flamepixel, hang tight for now, I'll send you an e-mail about details later since we haven't done much of a write up for the game or decided what game to do.

Note: E-mail is PNNet@hotmail.com

For all those I did choose, please check your e-mail because, the site's url is on the e-mail. If not, reply and ask me if you can't find it . Your e-mails are the one that you registered under gamedev.net. O, and don't use the e-mail above (pnnet@hotmail.com), use the one with my name...

*edit* I changed can to can't hehehe

Thanks, Broken Cloud
