3D Math?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know any good websites that help you learn 3D math ect. I have not tooken many math classes except for highschool level. I''ve only so far tooken beginning algebra, intermediate algebra, and now geometry. Could someone give me a link that could help teach this type of stuff to me so I can start coding 3D games better. As well as just to get a start into a more challenging area of math.

Others may have some specific links, but you should look through the "Articles & Resources" link here on gamedev.net, link at the top of this page. There are a lot of articles listed in there, and some are good and some are not so good. But it is a place to get started.

I can say that, apart from the web, there are a number of good books available on 3D graphics programming that include good introductions to 3D math. A couple of them were authored by folks here at gamedev. You can get a partial list from the "Books & Software" link, also above. I''d look specifically at the DirectX books. Several of the more recent onces (from WordWare, for example) seem to have fairly good intros to 3D math that are presented in a way that should be easy to follow. But please do look at a book in the bookstore before you buy it.

Here are a few sites that I pop back to now and then to check up on the maths element...

http://www.sosmath.com/

http://www.flipcode.com/geometry/

http://math.about.com/

http://www.fas.harvard.edu/~lib175/administration_2001/coursematerial.html (Not sure how long it will be here so be quick)

http://www.geom.umn.edu/

http://www.martinb.com

http://library.wolfram.com/

Although I did go out and locate a maths book that covered some of the missing areas assumed by the books I already had. I really wish I''d paid more attention in class when we covered Vectors and Matrices ;-) Unfortunately I was too busy concentrating on Programming.. if only I had realised at the time (some 20 years ago now) that the two work together so well ;-)
