brief to long pauses, choppy running

my direct draw application, finally tested on a computer other than mine, runs like doom 3 on a commadore64 !! what am i doing wrong? what kind of message loop should i be using? thanks, p.s. i dont know what kind of message loop i should be using with direct draw, thats how this question is related to direct x --Fireking Owner/Leader Genetics 3rd Dimension Development

Check the desktop colour depth (go to Control Panel -> Display -> Settings), and make sure it''s the same as your application. If it''s different this can cause large slowdown in DirectX applications.
um, if the game sets it to that, then my desktop doesnt need to be at that, cuz the game sets it, and besides, its windowed mode, so it uses whatever color mode is currently available

Um, you just said two completely different things:

1. The game sets the colour mode
2. The game uses whichever colour mode is currently available.

IF THE GAME sets the color mode, we dont need to use the control panel to change it

and in my case, the game does not set the color mode, it uses the one that is already on
