You should pick up a book about your an graphics API(DirectX, OpenGL). I use DirectX and you could pickup Trick of the Windows Game Programming Gurus by Andre Lamothe but it sucks ass. It has alot of faults in it. I dunno wich book to get but you can always look at the top, For Beginners.

Actually, I would suggest LaMothe''s book "Tricks of the WINDOWS Game Programming Gurus". Since you know C++, you can obviously fix the faults with the code. It teaches you DirectDraw, DirectSound, and DirectInput as well as many useful algorithms for use in your games. It''s overall a great purchase and comes with a Learning Edition of MSVC++6. Good Luck!
