Collision detection problem

i am beginning a quake like style game. i have finished the collision detection part(i tested, it works just like quake3), but i want to know if i am correct or i have done something that is not needed. in the scene, i am using sphere for my character testing against triangles in the scene. collision detection includes sphere/triangle, sphere/line, sphere/point. the need for sphere/line is because it is for testing the sphere against edges of triangles. the need for sphere/line is because of testing the sphere against start, end points of edges of triangles.
