Exporting from 3DS MAX to .x mesh

(This was originallyp osted under the directX forum, but I realized that mostp eople using Max probably don''t read it) My artist is exporting max scenes to .x files via the Panda dll and it seems to be working like a charm except for one thing: we have no clue how the texture ids are assigned. For example, one object ends up with a texture id of 20. The id of the texture used in the max scene for the object is 1. The artist thought the other thing it could be using was the smoothing group, but that doesn''t correlate with 20 either. Can anyone explain how Panda (or converters in general) assign the texture ids for .x objects? Onnel
