Direct3d Lighting Problem

I am using directional diffuse lighting onto a cube. It works fine except at certain angles the light reacts different on both triangles making up a face of the cube. The light bands sometimes are perpindicular to each other on the different triangles. Sometimes the bands are much smaller on one triangle and jump to very big on the other triangle. I''m not sure if I''m using the right vertex normals. For the upper left front vertex, it''s normal is (-1, 1, -1). Is that right? *** Triality ***
