Special Effects Game Programming Fire Effect

I am currently trying to make those modifications Mason McCuskey mentioned in the chapter about the fire effect. That is, I am trying to apply a cooling and a fueling map. The cooling map is easy, I simply subtract the value the cooling maps holds at the current position. But how can I probably apply a fueling map?

I don''t have the book handy, so I don''t know for sure what exactly he meant by a fuel map, but I''d guess it''s just the opposite of a cooling map. In each of those areas you add the value from the fuel map rather than subtracting.
