Triangle Strips in Display Lists

When you create a display list, does it optimize the data you have given it, like convert adjacent triangles into triangle strips/fans, or is it better to create traingle strips then put them into a display list?

use strips if u can. displaylists dont automatically create triangle strips for a group of triangles
