I just wanted to use directx 8 to load and play an mp3 music file. Is that complicated ? I''m not even sure wether this is a directaudio or directshow issue Can someone give me a few hints ? I just want to play a neat mp3 in my 3d-engine Thank you :-)

DirectShow tutorial from DirectX SDK on playing a file is all you need and it''s quite simple.

Take a look at the PlayWnd sample in the DirectShow samples in the SDK, that does exactly what you want.

Also take a look in the DirectX SDK documentation at:

DirectX 8.1 (C++) ->
DirectShow ->
Getting Started ->
How To Play a File

You might want to take a look at FMOD.

http://www.fmod.org

It shouldn''t take you very long to get some tunes playing using this.

Thank you all very much :-)

I suspected it was a directshow topic
But it had me confused, as mp3 was some sort
of audio in my (somewhat inadequate) brain

You guys probably saved me 7285 hours of thinking
I love this forum!
