I''ve heard that Doom 3 was programmed using MFC + API. Does this mean I should learn MFC Programming before I go in depth with a graphics API. Just when I thought I understood what to do more problems come up!

I''m going to sound very opinionated. I apologize in advance.

Don''t use MFC in games. Especially don''t use it if you''re not very familiar with the Windows API because it will shield you from learning crucial Windows programming tricks. MFC''s strength is in designing business applications, and it''s not so impressive in that category either.

i have to disagree here. people who write games but don''t know much windows copy-paste their windows code anyway, and you won''t learn much by doing that.

as for the issue of using mfc in games - there now is Windows Template Library to replace mfc.

no, what TheAIDSVirus meant is not to learn/use MFC without API knowledge, not making games.

My compiler generates one error message: "does not compile."
