Recource editor thingy (VB)
How can i alter the icons in exe files (programatically)?
I did a "successfull" icon change by compiling an empty project with a certain icon, opened that exe file + the icon file used, and located the start of the icon file insode the exe file. i then opened another icon file and PUT it to the exactly same point the original icon was saved in the exe file. this altered the icon of only the form, not the exe file itself. hmmm... Please help me, anyone!
Could''nt you just keep the icon in the app.path and then just change that source file? If you look how other programs do it. Normally there is just a icon file in there so you''d just change that.
Hope that helps
Hope that helps
hmm.. thanx, but, i want to edit the exe file. it''s a EXE editor... i can edit strings and all inside the exe, i just need to be able to change the icon
another method for you to find it is use 2 different icons one for the project icon and the other for the form. and try and find the project one.

There's a progam called Resource hacker that does exactly what you want:
http://www.webattack.com/get/resourcehacker.shtml
It can open any exe, dll file and allow you to see and edit all of the resources within it (string tables, icons, bmps etc...). This tool is obviously alot more fun when applied to other peoples programs other than your own For example it can be used to change the windows 2000 loading screens...
EDIT: Oops, I suppose I should have been more careful in reading the posts before replying... Still, it's a damn groovy program
