Texture mapping for Particle engines

Hi All, I am designing a particle engine for my game and have stumbled on the following problem. When I draw my particles (quads), texture mapped with a "white flash" texture, I can see the black outline of a box. I can''t seem to get rid of the "boxy" look of my particles no matter what I do. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Cheers. TommyB

If your particles are partially black at the edges, but are blended then the problem is that you particle texture isn''t completely black (rgb=0,0,0) at the edges.

If you mean your particles aren''t blended at all, then enable blending and then draw them. with a GL_ONE, GL_ONE blendmode (see glBlendFunc), and draw the particles after everything else (unsorted).
