Texture in Memory size

Howdy, I got to thinking about something yesterday; If I had a 3meg BMP file I am using as a texture, it should use roughly 3meg in video memory once loaded up. However, if I use a Jpg as a texture file with the same resolution (about 30K on disk), how much memory does it use in video memory? DirectX decompresses the Jpg before loading it up doesn''t it? If so, would anyone know if the decompression happens when you load the texture, or when you set the texture? I know this is probably internal stuff, but I did not have any luck finding any documentation about it. Thanks if you might know!
