3d Landing like Warcraft III

Hi, i am a new user of this forum, i belive some one can help me so here i am! I want to realize a 3D landscape engine like Warcraft 3. How can i get it ? Height Map some one suggest me. I don''t think WIII use this... For now i work with DX8 and VC++

hey. WC3 is a tilebased game. it''s nicely done, but it''s still tiles. Each tile has a gfx field, plus a height. Which means that they''re basically compiled heightmaps. Unless you want to do a MapEditor before you see any kind of results at all, you should go with the heightmap option.
