At the moment i''m devolping a prototype for a fantasy strategy/first person rpg game, based on the ad&d world, and other "fantasy middle-age" concepts. I would appriate any ideas on what this game could/should include. Whats good to have in such a game? Any particular features of existing games that could be worth while to have a look at, and maybe include. character descriptions,Races, Combat systems, rpg concepts, etc. I will be deeply thankfull for all help/tips and hints. Make sure you don''t use any WotC-copyrighted materials for your game.

those scary ambient sounds. i remember playing ravenloft or anvil...and hearing mummy sounds from distance makes the game more realistic.

the music. make sure you have "the music." wrong music will totally ruin your game.

My compiler generates one error message: "does not compile."

I believe a major fact in RPG games that has been left out are the confilicting elements. What happens when a fireball and an icebolt collide, you''d get a major steam explosion. Air and fire, increase flames, etc... Another one is to defeat an undead creature use cure (light/major) wounds, that should reduce the creature''s hp and giving a percentage/level of resurrecting the creature to be added to your party for the fight. Those are two ideas that I have developed in depth for a game I''m currently in the planning stages of but I would like to see implemented either in mine or someone elses.

One thing that really ruins an RPG game for me is very distinct roaming and combat states. You''re walking around the map in some low graphics mode and then - BOOM - you''re sucked into some elaborate combat state.

I would suggest that you try to find some middle ground for those two states and try to keep the transition between those states as invisible as possible.

Gerald_C: The stuff you mentioned about conflicting lements is there...just not in computer rpgs. The console rpgs have em though. Cure kills an undead creature, and air helps fire, and water has more effect on fire. Actually i think most rpgs have that concept. not sure about the undeadt thing but the comflicting elements are definetly around

impossible:

Already done. Check out .hack//SIGN. If you''re into anime (which I''m not), you may like it. There''s supposed to be a few games based on it so I hear from a few sad geeks on IRC.
