TFT LCD vs. LCD

Some monitors say TFT LCD rather than just LCD, and they are usually cheaper. What is the difference, and what is TFT? I can''t find info about this on the internet anywhere.

The LCD monitors you normally see should all be TFT (even if it doesn''t state it explicitly), which is a type of active LCD. The other type of LCD displays (you don''t see them much if at all these days, but they used to be used for laptops, especially the budget ones) are passive ones (known by a large number of names) which are not as bright as TFTs and update much slower (you get a ghosting effect with the mouse cursor).
