Apologies for posting twice, it was tough to decide what type of category it fell into. Im not here to jar people off - honest ;-)

Anyway, yes, im thinking about a 2D project. I tried coding a pseudo 3d race track routine about 10 years ago on a C64, which turned out as nothing more than a mess of shifting character blocks. It seems to be achieved the same way on every racer of this type whatever the hardware.

Is it allowed to speak in terms of real 3d?

the objects are billboards,


for the floor draw the center of the road
this gives you a line,
see where this line crosses the scanlines,
this gives you:
x_offset(y), z(y)

texture map: u=z, v=(x-x_offset)*z
