We are creating our first multiplayer game, a simple one that doesn't need a huge bandwidth. The game have been tested on a LAN, but now we want to upload it to a real server on Internet. Where can we find a host for this game that runs Windows 2000? What do we need from the host to keep running the multiplayer server application, and to secure it? Any information will be apprecited. Thanks! :D - Marco [edited by - marcalva on November 21, 2002 12:16:25 PM]

You can rent the server from them. You may also want to tell them that you will be hosting a games server.

I''m a host that runs Windows 2000 however whether or not I can host you depends a great deal on the maintainance requirements on my side. And if it''s DirectPlay. If it''s DP8 then I could potentially do it. If it''s DP7 or earlier it''s not going to happen. If your server can''t run for more than a month (or if you need me to constantly restart it) without crashing it''s not going to happen.

Basically the only remote access I''d give you is an FTP account pointing to your server''s directory. Everything else would have to be built in to your server.

As for secuity, unless someone can exploit one of the programs running on one of the few open ports, they''re not getting in.
