Projective Texturing?

I just got a copy of Tom Clancy''s Splinter Cell (an XBox game that can''t run at HDTV 1024*768), and after getting through a couple of levels, seeing a slide projector, and watching the shadows, wondered how it was done. Then I remembered a picture in the OGL Red Book, and a small demo with the OGL SDK, on projecting textures. Does anyone have any opinions/information/advice/warnings about projecting textures, other than it can instantly kill you video card if badly done?

not really there is the backward projection though but this can easily be solved with a 1d texture (IIRC this was recently discuss on opengl advanced forums, anyways it has been discussed many times before)
check glut + the nvidia sites for examples.
