Prob with GeForce in DX window mode
Hi all!
Im working on game in DX. I run it in window mode for debugging. And now i got this laptop from work which has a GeForce Go card. The game runs in 4-5 fps in a 640x480 window.
In fullscreen it runs fine.
Im using XP professional, and at first i thought i needed newer drivers for it. But that didnt solve it either.
But on my old computer, a P2 400mhz, 320 ram, ATI 3d Rage pro, XP Pro, it runs at 35-40 fps in window mode.
So, i went to GeForce support page, and looked at the FAQ to see if the answer was there, but no help there either.
Then i look at my DX setup code, but that is the same steps i always used, and the same as all my DX books also. Ive only seen this problem on GeForce systems so far.
One thing that could have be the problem, is that the game is configured for 8 bit mode, and the lowest i can set for my desktop is 16 bit. But this hasn''t been a problem before.
Does anyone have any clues on what''s wrong ?
If you need the source i would be happy to send it.
Its a VC++ 6.0 project.
PS:
Here''s some specs:
My system:
Dell Inspiron|8100 P4 1GHz, 320 MB RAM, GeForce Go
My game:
A 2d sidescroller using DirectDraw 7
Thanks for your time.
You should test a simple D3D sample that comes with the DX8 SDK in the "slow" computer.
Maybe you aren''t configuring the D3D Device correctly, make sure
your are using HAL instead of REF.
Hope that helps

Hi Kamikaze, thanks for your reply.
Well, first of all, im using DX7, not DX8.
Second, im using DirectDraw, not D3D
However, i have tested the SDK D3D apps in window mode, and they all run very smooth.
Thanks again for replying
