Is it legal to use the .md2 format in games that one creates and sells?

Since this is a one word answer, I know it wouldn''t take much to answer the question...so I''ll assume no-one knows?
Yes, you can.
I am not a lawyer, but I am using MD2s in my game, which will be a comercial game. Basically, since the MD2 format is not pattented, it is OK to use it.

As far as I know it is legal, just make sure you have written permission to use the models in comercial game if your not making the models yourself. Your going to get sued if you just rip some models out of quake 2 and slap them in your game. Other than that, using the md2 format is fair game.
Thank-You much appreciated.

All the models are mine or by friends of mine. I don''t do the programing, just graphics, and that question was posed to me, and I wasn''t able to find anything through internet searches, so I was hopeful that the board would be able to answer. Thanks again!
