public / private constructors/destructors...

of course it will. if your ctors and dtors are private, only public member functions can create and destroy objects of that class.

in test.cpp: class foo { ~foo() { } };
> g++ test.cpp
test.cpp:1: warning: `class foo'' only defines a private destructor and has no friends

Definitely make them public.
