Newbie and RGB

Hi I have two questions: 1) When every Pixel have 16Bits whitch Bits are the Red, Green and Blue component?(And what about 8Bit) 2) When R=G=B then the Color is Gray or White or Black? Thanks.

1) In 16-bit, it goes 5.6.5 (5 bits for red, 6 for green, and 5 for blue). Sometimes its 1.5.5.5 (1 bit alpha), but thats not too common.

2) Gray, depending on how high RGB is. For example, 0.0.0 is black, 255.255.255 is white, 128.128.128 is grey, 200.200.200 is lighter grey, etc.
