Gamedev.net does it and I hate them for it. A few other sites do it to. Why am I hat''n? It''s because when you bookmark their page and then look them up under your Favorites folder, they actually have an ICON next to their link!!! How in the world did they do this? I can''t find any resources on this. Please help! At least point me in the right direction!!! Thank you! -Lewie [m80]

Put this in the <head> tag:
<LINK REL="icon" HREF="/pics/gdicon.png" TYPE="image/png">

Looks like an Internet Explorer thing(as of 5), although Netscape 7 has adopted it. It doesn''t seem to be standard HTML.
Aaargh! Everyone save your workspaces before your program locks up your computer!

It''s not in the html 4 standard (it''s Microsoft''s), however most mainstream browsers support it, and if they don''t it''s not going to do any harm (since the icon doesn''t affect navigation or display at all).

For instance here it is *fully* supported and even encouraged on their own home page by Mozilla:
You could also just put an image in your folder named "favicon.gif/jpg/png"
daerid@gmail.com
The latest Opera (Opera 7) also supports it.
This is great... there''s always someone that knows something!!!! Thanx fellaz!!

Works for me. Try clearing your cache.
Look up favicon on google, it should have the correct steps for making the icon. It HAS to be a specific size and must be converted to an icon, not a gif/jpg/png.

Try this site and look under: "What if I wish to make my Favicon on my own?"

http://www.favicon.com
