gltranslate or not its possible to do graphics in opengl and sound in direct X right?

Hi I''m working on a game demo. Is using glTranslate an efficient way of moving an game character or object. Or should I just just make my own changes when I call GlVertex3f? Also I only know Open GL now, I''d like to use DirectX for sound and network play does anyone see this as a bad idea? What do you guys and gals think I''d really appreciate your comments. thanks Kenjin

If you wanna use those gl functions, I think you can save time and lines of code with glTranslatef.... ... as for DX, why not use OpenAL for sound? (I find it more interesting...)
